Maharashtra Mandal Denmark Copenhagen

It would be fair to say that our “Marathi Mandal” was unofficially established in the year 2010. In a tiny part of the Northern hemisphere called as Denmark, despite being thousands of kilometers away from our homes in India, and battling harsh winters, we started celebrating Ganeshotsava. Thanks are due largely to the efforts of Mrs. Anita & Mr. Kishor Bapat, who facilitated the utsav at their place. The Ganeshotsava not only helped us to get together but also laid the foundations of “Marathi Mandal”. We kept meeting for other events too, such as “Kojagiri”, “Diwali”, and many of us participated in a trip to Oslo in the summer of 2012.

In the autumn of 2012, Marathi Mandal Denmark (MMD) was registered and became an official organization. MMD’s constitution as well as vision was formulated in the same year. Our motto “Janan Sathi Marathi” (Marathi for the people) itself reflects MMD’s vision. All those who can speak, understand or wish to speak Marathi, are invited to MMD and be integrated in the future progress of the Mandal.

MMD will not only actively preserve Marathi arts & culture but also play a key role towards facilitating Marathi literature. Though MMD is still in its infancy, there is no doubt that in the coming years it will make a mark through its rich and fun-filling cultural events.
